The sweet little pup hit my front bumper on the passenger side and I'm sure by the size of the dent and rip in the plastic that determined dog was going to make it across {or so it thought} the street to the bike rider he so desperately wanted to run along side. Didn't quite make it though. The mom saw it all happen and be honest I was quite shaken up by it too. Christian was in the front seat and heard and saw it all. He thought I had run over it because of the "thump" noise he heard. I stopped and got out of the car to what I thought was going to be a dreary, grotesque sight. To my surprise, the dog was running home to its owner. She was shaking and screaming and crying. They went inside and I just couldn't go on and clean the church-that is, until I made sure that all were doing okay. I knocked on the door and it took a few moments before someone came to the door. I could hear lots of little screams and that tore at my heartstrings even more. The mother finally opened the door and came outside. I apologized and she came back with, "No, don't you even worry about it-I knew he was going to get hit someday. He loves running after bike riders and it was all his fault. I'm sorry." I was relieved and yet taken aback at the same time. Grateful that she had taken responsibility-but shocked {quite frankly} at the honesty and she had shown.
I left and went to the church to clean and it was Christian who came in and told me about the car.......I had NO idea that anything had even happened to our brand new van with only 750 miles on it and driving it for a mere 5 weeks. I was amazed at the dent and rip (with hair stuck in nonetheless....sick!) that such a small pup could cause. Again, just one more thing to put on my list to do with all the other thousands of things I needed to get done. Oh well, ins. was kind and got me in for the adjustor quickly and even told me it is never the drivers fault when a domestic animal hits a car-it's owner should have been watching it more carefully and it should also be contained in a fenced yard. So the $100 deductible would be recovered from the home owner and the claim would not go against my record.
The dog hit me-exactly what the insurance agent told me-the kids just laughed and said, "Ok, whatever mom!" lol
